I have been using this system on a physical note pad and it feels mostly good so far. I’m still feeling anxiety about forgetting things. And I really need to force myself not to look at yesterday’s plan when making todays.

I think I have some serious gaps in the rest of My Personal System where I cannot really trust it to keep me on top of things with dead lines.

I’m also not sure how this will hold up when I get into a bad stretch. I’m doing better now than recent times and that makes it easier to try a slightly new system like this. The real test is always how well the system handles the bad times. Your systems should optimize for failure recovery.

It’s a slightly more formalized process that my usual “to do today” thing.

Each day (or weekend or whenever you need), you make a list of things that would be nice to do today.

You will not and should not complete this list. Let go of doing all the things.

The first thing on the list is “make a day play” and you can check that off immediately.

You cannot look at the previous day’s plan when making today’s plan.

  • This is a sort of Salience heuristic filter situation, so things that are top of mind bubble up and you can let go of other things
  • This prevents the burden of eternally carrying tasks over and over forever
  • Tasks that actually have some due date and “should” be carried over belong on a calendar or in some other task management solution.

Generally, I think the idea here is less about doing the things you don’t want to do and helping empower you to spend your time doing what you actually want to do
