Adding friction to the process of joining your community is probably pretty good, actually. Everyone isn’t welcome.
I am becoming increasingly convinced of the importance of being part of many small local groups. Those groups should all have nice layers above them they interact with. Trying to assimilate people into these upper layers is bad.
We should all be doing our own little idiosyncratic things with other people who appreciate them
I want to occasionally look up and see other cool groups doing their own weird things. I don’t want to do those things. I’m not THAT interested in them. But I love seeing them occasionally and marveling at how cool they are. How wonderful is it that we’re all up to our own weird shit.
