I am interested in becoming an explicit emdash user. CMD+OPT+- to create an — on the keyboard. I listened to a recent 99 Percent Invisible episode on the em dash, and it speaks to me. I like that it’s sort of a wildcard punctuation.
One example that really spoke to be is to represent pauses in thought. Jumping between ideas. I’ve noticed myself using a bunch of normal dashes to that effect lately. It seems like the em dash would be more appropriate, technically. And while I don’t care about being correct, the idea of thumbing my nose at AI generated text is compelling.
